Experimental book, merge a personal selection of visual and emotional triggers.
One of the project conditions was to use lyrics of
Julie Andrews’ song “My Favorite Things.”
I love the idea of simple cooking. The original book design, however, did not support the concept of the author. The project’s goal was to embody the light approach to food preparation.
I find a heavy load of imagery unnecessary. In modern life, pictures often try to convince us in an idea or sell something. It’s a pleasure to cook when one is focused on the process itself rather than on a perfect image of how the result supposed to look. To make the pictures more abstract yet straightforward, I’ve used the black & white imagery with contrasting textures of watercolor splashes.
Critics note that Ferlinghetti’s poetry often takes on a very visual dimension as befits this poet who is also a painter.
In the experimental poetry book for Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s poem “Underwear,” I’ve aimed to embody the way one should read a poem. Slowly, line by line, processing each word as it comes. Vast white space is to help in clearing a mind from other voices that are continually chatting in one’s head.
